3Terms of sale

These terms apply when you buy anything from LPS Law Ltd through www.lpslaw.co.uk, Eventbrite, a Stripe payment link, or by invoice. Part A applies to everyone. Part B applies if you buy as a consumer (for purposes wholly or mainly outside your trade, business or profession). Part C applies if you buy for a business, charity, NHS body, local authority or other organisation.

Part A — Everyone

A1. What we sell

  • LawLive — live online courses on Zoom. Individual places: £125 inc VAT for a full day, £75 inc VAT for a half day. Organisations: £950 + VAT for a group place of up to 30 delegates on an open date. In-house days: see the Organisations page.
  • CineLaw — on-demand film courses, delivered through Articulate Reach 360.
  • Members — access to our online legal tools, including Neil AI-len, for £59 a year or £6.99 a month CHECK: state "inc VAT" or "+ VAT". Cancel at any time. Members get 30% off LawLive courses. Team licences for organisations are priced on the Members page.
  • Calls — a free 30-minute call about your training needs, booked on Calendly.

All prices are in pounds sterling. Prices for individuals include VAT. Prices for organisations show VAT separately.

A2. How a contract is made

  1. You choose a course or plan. The payment page shows the price, the payment methods (card or Revolut Pay) and these terms. You can check and correct your details there before you pay.
  2. You press the button that confirms payment (for example Pay or Subscribe). That is your offer to buy.
  3. We accept when the payment succeeds and we send a confirmation email. The contract starts then.
  4. If a course is full or a price is wrong, we tell you and refund you in full.

We keep a record of your order; email us for a copy. Our contract is in English.

A3. Live courses

  • We send the Zoom link and materials by email at least 2 working days before the course. You need a device with a camera, a microphone and a stable internet connection. Zoom's own terms apply to your use of Zoom.
  • We do not record courses. You must not record, photograph or share them.
  • Course materials are for the delegate's own use. You must not copy, share or resell them.
  • You get an attendance certificate, with the course title and hours, when you attend the full session. You can use it as evidence in your own professional development record if your regulator accepts it.
  • Our content is legal education, not legal advice. Check the law before you act on it in a case.

A4. Your changes

  • Substitute. A colleague may take your place at any time before the course starts. Email us their name and email.
  • Transfer. You may move to a later date of the same course free of charge if you tell us at least 7 days before the course. CHECK After that, a transfer is at our discretion and may carry a £25 admin fee. CHECK
  • Cancel. See Part B (consumers) or Part C (organisations).

A5. Our changes

If we must cancel or move a course, we tell you as soon as we can and offer a place on another date or a full refund. If the trainer is ill, we may provide a trainer of equal expertise or move the date. For organisations, Part C4 sets out what else we pay.

A6. Members

  • Your membership starts when you pay. It renews each month or year until you cancel. Cancel at any time from your account page or by email; access continues to the end of the paid period. We do not refund part-periods, except as Part B and this section say.
  • One login per person. Team licences give each person their own login. If you share a login, we may suspend or end the membership after we warn you.
  • The tools, including Neil AI-len, give general legal information. They are not legal advice and no lawyer–client relationship arises. Check primary sources before you rely on an answer.
  • Neil AI-len has a fair-usage limit on questions per member. We may change the tools or suspend a tool for maintenance. If we remove a major feature during your paid period, you may cancel and get a pro-rata refund.

A7. On-demand courses (CineLaw)

Access is for the named learner for the period stated on the course page (12 months unless we say otherwise). You must not download, share or show the films to others except under a team or LMS licence.

A8. Liability — everyone

  • Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to exclude or limit.
  • We provide our services with reasonable care and skill. Our courses and tools give general information about the law. They are not advice on any particular case.
  • We hold professional indemnity insurance with cover up to £500,000.

A9. General

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, but a consumer who lives in Scotland or Northern Ireland may use the courts there. If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest still applies. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else without our consent, except a substitute delegate under A4.

Part B — Consumers

This part applies if you buy as an individual for purposes wholly or mainly outside your trade, business or profession. Most delegates buy for work; if your employer pays, or you buy for your own practice, Part C applies instead. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

B1. Your 14-day right to cancel

You may cancel an online purchase for any reason within 14 days, starting the day after the contract is made (Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013). Section 4 tells you how. We refund you within 14 days of your notice, by the payment method you used. B2 and B3 say when you must pay for part of the service, or lose the right.

B2. Courses that start within 14 days

If you book a live course that takes place within your 14-day period, you ask us to provide it within that period. You also acknowledge that:

  • you lose the right to cancel once the course has taken place in full; and
  • if you cancel before then, after we have started to supply the course (for example by sending the materials), you pay for what we have supplied, in proportion to the full price.

You confirm this request and acknowledgement before you pay. CHECK: this must be true on every Stripe and Eventbrite checkout before publishing. If you do not confirm it, we book you onto a later date of the course instead.

B3. Members and on-demand courses

  • Members is a service. When you join, you ask us to give you access at once. If you cancel within 14 days, we refund what you paid, less an amount in proportion to the days you had access.
  • CineLaw films are digital content. When you buy, you agree that we supply them at once and you acknowledge that you lose the right to cancel once you start to watch. Until you start, you may cancel within 14 days for a full refund.

B4. Cancelling a live course after 14 days

  • More than 7 days before the course: full refund, or free transfer to a later date. CHECK
  • 7 days or fewer before the course: no refund, but a colleague may take your place.
  • If you do not attend and do not tell us, there is no refund.

B5. If something goes wrong

If we do not provide a course or tool with reasonable care and skill, or as we described it, tell us. We will repeat or fix it. If we cannot do that within a reasonable time, you may ask for a price reduction, which may be a full refund. We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable when the contract was made.

Part C — Organisations and business buyers

This part applies if you buy for or on behalf of a business, charity, NHS body, local authority or other organisation, or if you are a professional buying a course for your own practice.

C1. Ordering and payment

  • You may pay by card or Revolut Pay through our payment links, or ask for an invoice and pay by bank transfer. We issue invoices through FreeAgent. They are due within 28 days. Give us your purchase order number when you book; we put it on the invoice.
  • If you pay late we may charge interest and compensation under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
  • A group place covers up to 30 named delegates. Tell us their names and emails at least 5 working days before the course. CHECK

C2. Cancellation

What you pay if you cancel CHECK: confirm these bands
Notice before the course Open-date group place In-house day
More than 28 days Full refund or free transfer Full refund or free transfer
14 to 28 days 50% of the fee 50% of the fee
Fewer than 14 days Full fee Full fee

You may substitute delegates free of charge at any time. A transfer to a later date within 12 months is free if you ask more than 14 days before the course.

C3. Team licences

A team licence runs for 12 months from payment and renews unless you cancel before the renewal date. The administrator may add and remove users up to the seat limit. Seats are for named people in your organisation; you may reassign a seat when someone leaves.

C4. Liability

Our total liability to you under or in connection with any order, in contract, tort or otherwise, is limited to the fee paid for that order. We are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, or indirect or consequential loss. If we cancel a course, our liability is limited to a refund or a new date. These limits do not apply to the liabilities in A8.

C5. Data protection

When you give us your staff's names and emails, you confirm that you may do so and that you have told them. We are the controller for the data we hold about delegates and members, as the Privacy notice says. If your procurement team needs a data processing agreement, email us.

4Cancellation

For consumers. To cancel within your 14-day period, send us a clear statement that you want to cancel. Email training@lpslaw.co.uk, or write to the address below. You may use the model form, but you do not have to. Send your notice before the 14 days end. Part B of the Terms of sale explains refunds and when the right ends.

6Complaints

We want to know if something has gone wrong.

  1. Tell us. Email training@lpslaw.co.uk with "Complaint" in the subject line. Say what happened, when, and what you want us to do.
  2. We acknowledge your complaint within 3 working days.
  3. We reply in full within 14 days. If we need longer, we tell you why and when you will hear from us. CHECK
  4. Review. If you are not satisfied, ask for a review by our director, Neil Allen. He replies within a further 14 days.
  5. After that. If you are a consumer and we cannot agree, you may go to court. We do not use an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider. For a data protection complaint, see 1.6. For an accessibility problem, see 5.4.

Complaints about Neil Allen's work as a barrister are not for LPS Law Ltd. They go to 39 Essex Chambers under its complaints procedure, and then to the Legal Ombudsman.
